Classic is a word that gets overused. But when I walked into the Groffs’ wedding at the Chandelier of Gruene, I understood exactly what it means. Blush pink, sage green, and neutral tones throughout. A dress with the most subtle lace texture you’d almost miss if you weren’t paying attention. A veil with hand-embroidered floral edging that I kept finding excuses to photograph. Some weddings chase what’s trending. This one just knew what it was.

The ceremony space at the Chandelier of Gruene is one of those rare venues that gets the best of both worlds. The walls open up completely, so you feel like you’re outside but you’re sheltered from whatever the weather has planned (thanks, Texas!). Limestone walls, soft filtered light, and the altar covered in flowers! My personal rule is the more florals the better. The Groffs went all in, and the altar earned it.

After they said their vows, they rang the church bell. I don’t know exactly why that got to me, but it did. There’s something about the physicality of it, pulling the rope, hearing it ring out over the property, that felt like the right way to end a ceremony.

Then golden hour showed up and did what it does best at this venue.

The oak trees at the Chandelier of Gruene do something in late afternoon light that I genuinely cannot recreate in editing. It just happens. We worked through the courtyard, hit every good spot, and ended at the swing, which was draped in florals, because of course it was, and I could have stayed there all night.

Now let’s talk about the reception.

The Chandelier of Gruene’s reception hall earns its name. Two hundred guests, an enormous space, and it never once felt crowded. For a wedding that size, that matters more than people realize. The bride had the foresight to choose a venue that could actually hold a real party, and it showed in every corner of the room. Big chandelier overhead, candles everywhere, ambient lighting that shifted the whole mood once the sun went down.

Every table had a photo of the couple at the age matching the table number. Table seven had a photo of them both at seven years old. I’ve seen a lot of personalization details over the years. This one is going in my all-time favorites.

The plates were gold lace. Whether they were ceramic or very fancy disposables, I genuinely cannot tell you, and it doesn’t matter because they looked incredible against the florals and candlelight. The oversized last name display, the Mr. & Mrs. sign, the consistent detail throughout, this was one of the most cohesive and well-designed galleries I’ve delivered in a long time.

And then there was the cake.

The topper was her parents’ topper from their own wedding in the 1980s. The cake design was the exact same as the 1980’s version. A Precious Moments bride and groom, AND a real working fountain! I stood in front of that cake longer than I probably should have. I’m not sorry about it.

That’s what a wedding is supposed to be. Not just a beautiful party but a continuation of something that started long before the couple walked down the aisle.

The night closed with a sparkler send-off and a getaway in an old Ford, beer cans rattling off the bumper as they drove away (love!). Everyone was happy. The couple was happy. It was one of those weddings where I drive home replaying specific moments instead of just scrolling through the photos in my head.

That’s the kind of wedding that will consistently make it into my sample galleries.
